Rashomon: A Thriller Movie Directed By Akira Kurosawa (Movie Review Sample) Content: RashomonNameCourse Name and NumberPaper Due DateRashomonProduced in 1950, Rashomon is a thriller movie directed by Akira Kurosawa, closely with working alongside the cinematographer Kazuo Miyagawa. The film stars Masayuki Mori, Takashi Shimura, Machiko Kyo, and Toshiro Mifune. The film is often based on two stories; In a Grove which provides the plot and characters and the Ryunosuke Akutagawa's, Rashomon that gives the setting. Kurosawa makes the screenplay simple and comprehensible as he presents human nature as a complex aspect when it comes to speaking the truth concerning particular matters. All the flashbacks in the movie are half true and half false. They are true in that they present an accurate portrait of what every witness thinks happened. On the other hand, they are false because in his autobiography, Kurosawa potray human beings as incapable of being honest about themselves and with themselves. Kurosawa started his career with the film known Sugata Sanshi ro in 1943 where a boy learns the meaning of life via judo. Rashomon made me like Japanese cinema especially due to the elevated level of emotion by the actors. The film opens in the torrential rain with two men sheltering at the Kyoto Rashomon's Gate. The rain in the movie is important as it separates the present from the past. Most movies that start with rainfall signify that there are people somewhere who are enslaved and in need of help, but find it hard to access. Kurosawa made good use of the rain at the beginning of the film since it creates suspense to the viewers. The two men are a woodcutter (Takashi Shimura) and a priest (Minoru Chiaki)2. Later on, we see a commoner (Kichijiro Ueda) engaging in the conversation. During the conversation, the commoner learns that a samurai had been murdered and his wife raped by a suspected local bandit. When the woodcutter and the priest try to tell the commoner what they saw, they make use of flashbacks. The wife, the bandit, and the wo odcutter stories completely disagree since everyone is lying for their own benefit. When I was watching this part, it dawned on me how human beings always want to favor themselves. Everyone want to be on the safer side of the story where they do not to take the blame for the evil actions they perpetrate. Even if one has done something wrong, they do not admit to it right awayKurosawa uses emotions and visuals to communicate to his audience; which make the movie interesting. For example, when the woodcutter began his journey into the woods there is silence which depicts an entrance into another realm of the reality. These also create the images of life and death since the forest is portrayed as a fearful place. Kurosawa had realized the weight of honesty of emotion in the silent film. Sometimes dialog does not carry significant weight as compared to the actors eyes, gestures, and faces to express emotions. The dramatic incident is often singular and devoid of the conventional plot. The photography is excellent, and the flow of images are expressive beyond words. The use of incidental sounds and music is ...

Question: Discuss about the staffing policies of Beat Juice. Answer: Firms venture into new markets with the aim of expanding their markets due to available opportunities in other countries. In this case, Beast Juice Company has decided to enter Philippines and has to choose the mode of entry. In Philippines, the government mainly supports the use of local agents and distributors in the case of foreign firms seeking to enter into their market. In such a case, direct exporting seems perfect since it uses agents and distributors. The company also needs to develop the design it will use in entering such a market and the global product design since the firm has diversified juice products that it can offer the Filipino market. The report also analyses the staffing policies that are appropriate for the firm in various scenarios. Introduction It is a business as established itself in the home country that it often seeks opportunities to expand into a new market in a foreign country. It is very true that the company understands its market in a better way, its pool of customers and their needs in terms of preferences. If a company as a sales force that is robust and active then it will enjoy having strong brand awareness and the business becomes stable over a short duration of time. A company may decide to operate globally due to a number of factors. One of the most fundamental is the market-driven motive where the desire to serve a wider market becomes the primary objective of the enterprise. In this scenario, Beast juice decides to venture the Philippines market so as to explore the new market and also to increase the market size for its juice which means more revenue in terms of sales. The existence of a large pool of labor in the Philippines is ideal for Beast juice company that relies heavily on labor-intensive methods and also cuts the costs of production in terms of cheap labor. The large population also offers a wide market for the juice thus creating more revenues for the company. Entry strategy A number of strategies exist that a firm can utilize in entering an international market. However, no single strategy can be said to work for all foreign markets. The most appropriate strategy is direct exporting in a particular market, and in another market, a joint venture may be used, and in another market, a manufacturer may be forced to license the production facilities. Some factors influence the strategy to be employed and entail details such as the transportation costs involved, the extent to which the product may be adapted and also the rates of a tariff. Though the above sectors may lead to an increase in the production costs, an increase in the sales revenues may offset the costs(Daneils, Radebaugh, Sullivan). Below is a discussion of the strategies used in entering a foreign market and in this case a recommendation of the best entry strategy will be made concerning Beast Juice. Direct exporting With direct exporting, it involves selling into the market directly using the company resources. For many companies, it is after the establishment of a program involved with the sales that they turn to the agents and distributors that act as representatives in the foreign market. The agents and the distributors are used in propelling the interests of the company and thus become the face of the company(Tradestart). It is thus critical for a company to be keen in selecting and choosing the agents and distributors in the same manner that it would do in hiring great employees in an organization. The law in the Philippines requires and supports most of the business enterprises to use the agents and distributors more so the ones that are seeking foreign markets. Arrangements that involve agents and distributors are more common in the Philippines. The local companies always wait for the opportunity to progress discussions after examining a foreign enterprise in terms of the product and also after analyzing the viability of the market. As demonstrated in the first project, Philippines has a good tropical climate that is warm and hot triggering the demand for juice and other beverages more so during the hot climate. In the event of a Beast juice and the Filipino agents and distributors contracts will be entered to safeguard the interests of the parties involved(Hill Hult, International business). Some of the key elements in such contracts include the general provisions of the contract that revolves around the profiling the parties of the contract and in this case, it is the Filipino agents and the Beast juice company. The terms and the conditions of the contract have also to be defined in such an agreement and also the nature of the goods involved in the transaction have to be identified and in this case, it will be the Beast juice. The rights and the obligations of the beast juice company are also an important aspect of the contract. For instance, the Beast juice in the Philippines is entitled to sole rights that protect the product from being patented by another company. The patent rights of Beast juice are protected in the Philippines and as such protect the juice from being copied by a comp etitor. The last component of the contract is the distributors rights and obligations; this involves making arrangements for payments and also disseminating information to the juice manufacturer on the Philippine market and any trends in the market. The Philippines legal framework does not support the laws that impede the termination of a distributor contract and either party may terminate the contract. According to the contracts, it is specified that a one month notice be issued in the event of cancellation(CIPD). The Philippines market allows for standard commissions for their agents and ranges from six to ten percent but also depend on the industry. For the case of Beast juice, the percentage should be slightly lower and thus a range of two percent to three percent should be fine for the agents given that the industry is growing and small. The Philippine industry does not have a specific profile for an agent. Firms in the Philippines accommodate less than 25 employees in the case of small-scale firms. However, in the case of a large-scale firm that has a variety of products and a large number of suppliers, it can afford to employ many agents(Dlabay Scott, 2011). Some of the firms concentrate their focus in the Metro Manila region and others extend their services to other provincial centers such as Bacolod, Iloilo, and Baguio with the help of dealers that have an extended network and also agents. The local agents and distributors in the Philippines working with foreign enterprises often use the forward sales arrangements. In this arrangement, the distributor normally places an order and then sells the product to the customer on the end(Euromonitor). The corporate agents, on the other hand, are required to register with the Securities Exchange Commission in the Philippines and the sole proprietorship agents, on the other hand, must register with the Trade department. Operational strategy Organization design also known as the structure of the organization refers to the whole structural components and systems employed in managing the whole organization(Tradestart). The design of the firm enables it to allocate resources efficiently, facilitate assignment of various duties to employees and also enables employees to receive instructions and follow orders as per the company policies, rules and regulations(C, C, Udayasankar, 2016). The firms design is also instrumental in ensuring that employees understand their expectations in a workplace as per their performance and lastly the design can be used as a tool for formulating the problem-solving framework(Tradestart). It is important to understand that no specific design is designed for all organizations and thus the organization must have its design to suit its requirements. However, some factors determine the design of a particular organization and entail: size, the technology used by the firm and also the culture of the country where the firm operates. However, in this work Beast juice will determine the organization design in the Philippines. An organization design is dynamic and as such keeps changing as firms expand internationally(Dlabay Scott, 2011). For most firms, the strategies they develop do not encompass international markets, and in their involvement in foreign markets, they adopt indirect export as an entry strategy. However, as the sales expand through the indirect export, they adopt other means of operating in international markets since there are opportunities in such markets. The following approaches are employed by firms in venturing foreign markets. The corollary approach is used by firms that are new in foreign markets, and a firm here delegates tasks and responsibilities to an existing department in the foreign markets such as processing orders. The department's assigned such duties include the marketing and finance department(Thompson, Peteraf, Gamble, Strickland, 2014). As a result of the expansions of the sales in a foreign market, a firm may develop a sales department that foresees all the operations in a foreign market(Focus). As such as taking the lead in marketing the products, sourcing and working closely with the distributors in the foreign nation and making the appropriate arrangements as far as the finances are involved. However, at a certain level, the export department may not be in a position to handle all the firm's operations as a result of the robust sales and as such new methods and strategies may be required to assist the export dep artment(Bush, 2017). The international division, on the other hand, is formed by assisting the firms to familiarize with the international operations of the firm(Warner, 2010). It is through this department that a firm can create and develop programs that facilitate smooth and efficient allocation of resources in foreign markets while at the same time ensuring that the activities of the firm in the domestic market are ongoing(Posner Applegarth, 2014). Organization design Global product design The global product design has been identified as the most common and thus describes responsibilities for particular products or a group of products to different divisions in a firm. The design is suitable for firms that have a variety of product lines being sold in markets that are diversified. The Beast juice would be favored by this design as there are different juices sold and they would all suit different markets. Firms will choose M-form design in the case the products are related, in this case, the different juice blends are related in the case of Beast juice would be more convenient(Thompson, Peteraf, Gamble, Strickland, 2014). The global product design has various advantages. One of the benefits that Beast Juice Company may derive is that the managers will be in a position to gain significant hands-on expertise in all angles of the product as more focus is directed on a single product and in this case all focus will be on developing the Beast juice(Euromonitor). Secondly is that there is efficiency in production that ensures that products are manufactured at the lowest costs. In this scenario, Beast juice will be manufactured at the lowest costs possible thus minimizing operational costs thus raising revenues. Philippines have a large population and thus diversified needs in terms of consumption of various products. The beast juice comes in various dimensions as per the market demand just like the competitors such as Delmonte have various blends to suit various clients. Philippines have a variety of fruits and thus make it even better in terms of producing different blends for the Beast juice. For instance, Beast juice can have blends such as the carrot, mango, and pineapple that can compete favorably in the market with other brands from other companies. It is for this case that a global product design would be suitable for Beast juice since it engages in a variety of juice blends. Key internal weakness One of the main weaknesses is the issue of skilled labor. Despite the Philippines having a large population, most of the people lack the skills needed in the market. The juice industry requires a particular set of skills in processing and manufacturing and this may cause problems for the Beast juice in case such skills lack among the Filipinos. The company may not compete favorably amidst competition from other global players in the industry. The company can overcome this weakness by using the services of foreign workers who have the required skills though it may be more expensive in the long-run. Financial capital requirements A beverage enterprise normally requires proper packaging and also the availability of infrastructure such refrigeration for purposes of cooling and preserving the juice. Machines required in branding and labeling the product is also needed. In such an enterprise a range of about $ 20000 would be good for the business. Staffing policies For businesses with offices in foreign countries have to choose the strategy to be used in hiring management to run the affairs of the company. Ethnocentric entails hiring nationals of the parent company an international market. The ethnocentric approach has some advantages such as ensuring that the company policies are followed by having nationals who understand and have the knowledge of the firm(Johnston). However, the problem with such an approach is that it may be expensive bringing the nationals in a foreign country as there are costs associated with moving the staff to another country and also settling them(Johnston). The polycentric approach, on the other hand, involves hiring the citizens of the host country. Such nationals are hired to fill the managerial positions. The motive behind this approach is that the locals understand the culture of their country better and thus may be in a position to customize the products according to the needs of the customers in such a country as compared to foreign employees. The polycentric approach, in this case, would be superior to other approaches for the Beast juice since the hiring of the nationals of the foreign country is cheap in a country such as the Philippines. Also, there will be increased productivity as the nationals have an advantage of possessing better knowledge on the market. Lastly, there is government support as a result of hiring the nationals which may be beneficial to the Beast juice regarding operating in a favorable environment characterized by government subsidies that lower cost of production. However, the approach has some disadvanta ges such as conflict may arise in the case of a subsidiary where the managers of the host country and the managers of the foreign country may have conflicting interests(Mosler, 2003). The geocentric approach, on the other hand, refers to employing the best employees irrespective of their nationality. This approach has some benefits such as enabling a global firm tap the best pool of managers to run the firm as such managers have international exposure and experience that is needed in international operations(Lander). However, the geocentric approach has some limitations as it is expensive for a small business or firm(Lander). It is costly to hire the best managers for a small firm and thus inappropriate for Beast juice which is operating on a small scale basis. Conclusions The report reveals that indeed the Philippines is an ideal country for the Beast juice based on a number of factors such as the large size of the population. However, a number of strategies are important if the company is to achieve optimum success(Dlabay Scott, 2011). One it is fundamental for the company to increase capital and expand the venture so as to enjoy economies of scale associated with large-scale operations. It is also important for the venture to seek licenses from the Filipino government so that it can run and set up its premises in the Philippines so as to reduce costs associated with agents and distributors. It is through personality that we are in the position to define an individual. Personality types on the other hand are the mode in which we study an individual through their psychology and classify them according to the groups in which they fit. Personality types should not at any cost be confused with personality traits given that it is a wider term than the latter.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Personality and Personality Types specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More While personality types are qualitative in nature, personality trait focuses much on the quantitative aspects. We can at times categorize individuals as introverts or extroverts while traits will handle them as either introversion or extroversion and argues they are dynamic in nature (Edelstein, 2006). There are several personality types of and the se are generally arrived at according to the assessments by the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) which is a psychometric test questionnaire employed in measuring peopleââ¬â¢s perception and how they view their surroundings (Edelstein, 2006). The assessment mode borrows heavily from the typological theories in their assessments; it is designed to fully understand the theory. Personality type theory therefore as defined by Jung identifies two major cognitive operations that is rationality which revolves around thinking and feelings vs. irrationality which are perceiving in nature handling senses and intuitions (Kroeger, Thuesen Rutledge, 2002). These functions were later developed to help identify personalities as either introverts or extroverts. Since personality, types have been disintegrated further into many other types among which we have; the duty fulfiller, such person is very serious and often quiet with much interest in security and peace. Such a person can surely be de pended upon due to their high sense of responsibility and hardworking. We also have the mechanic type of person, such a person often quiet and reserved, their interest is mostly swayed on trying to know how things work in a given way and why such is the case. We also have the idealist personality, this person is reflective and has the urge to serve humanity to the fullest, within the value systems developed, and they always make efforts to stay within them. The other person is the scientist; a scientist is an individual much independent in thinking and always original in their ideas, which are creative and analytical. They are theory transformers into effective plans of action (Kroeger, Thuesen Rutledge, 2002). In the human functions and organizations, it is prudent to understand each individual in their personalities so that effectiveness can be realized in motivation at work places, effective management and communication functions as well as fostered relationships between the sub jects and those they intend to serve (Northouse, 2007). The level at which we understand personality will always help in unlocking a variety of human functions like leadership and even motivation.Advertising Looking for essay on psychology? The management of individuals is very important since it will define who the leader becomes and who is lead in any form of organized groupings. Personality theories, types and tests are quite applicable in the management of institutions, recruitment of workforce and selection (Kroeger, Thuesen Rutledge, 2002). It also helps to define training needs of any organization. Studies of personality and personality types are therefore vital and must be given a chance for prosperity in our societies. Managing strategic performance Virtual teams in organizations consist of a pool of professionals constituted and working remotely in several locations. The locations may be at the comfort of their homes, co-working offices or the branch offices of large organizations. Irrespective of where an individual works or is stationed, they are normally in the same team and they operate towards the same objectives and aims of the organization. Through modern technology, the members of the virtual teams always collaborate and work as a group/team from wherever they are located, they operate on the same plat form through the application of most modern technology such as web conferencing and instant messaging, Skype and online management software are employed (Gibson Cohen, 2003). Virtual teams across the world have the following general characteristics, which enhance their functions. Executive support; this is a situation where the management is given the role of supporting relation ships to help build trust. Secondly, virtual teams experience effective HR functions, which entail frequent training of staff. The teams are highly structured; this is because virtual teams are mostly successful when the right people are selected. The best workforce for a virtual team performance is a person who is self-reliant and independent in their work and self motivated. The other characteristic is that virtual team organizations have very strong team leaders to steer their roles and functions. Strong leaders are necessary because there are no face-to-face meetings and interaction hence it is hard to build the required trust (Gignac, 2005). Through virtual teams, companies have been in the position of deriving many benefits, which range from cheap salaries and less overhead costs (Gibson Cohen, 2003). Overhead costs are reduced since the company does not need to pay for office space and packing for some of its employees. The company is also in the position of attracting the b est employees since there is no bureaucracy in getting the employees; they as well have a diverse pool to choose. Other benefits include improved communication, facilitated coordination, increased working time hence an improvement in productivity.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Personality and Personality Types specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Diversity and cultural enrichment is a benefit, alongside this, research is facilitated (Gignac, 2005). Virtual teams also have set backs despite having many pros. Some of the demerits include; the method requires new skills from their employees hence more costs in form of trainings and retraining frequently. Organizations trying to adopt this form of operations in their organization face a challenge of difficulty to integrate this culture. It is as well extremely difficult to track the efforts made by its employees hence a difficulty in measuring output; this may fuel wa stage and inefficiency in terms of labor force performance (Zofi, 2012). Lastly, benefits that are accrued from face to face operations are lacking since individuals are working from several location. To effectively facilitate the performance of virtual teams by management, the organization should invest heavily in modern technology among other strategies. Moreover, such technology will facilitate the use of instant messaging to enhance a sense of presence; use of Skype must be embraced while increasing the interval of verbal check-ins. Every employee should be posted online and use of virtual telephone system should be embraced. In addition, the leadership and management should develop a program that will bring the employees to meet at a central physical location occasionally (Zofi, 2012). Decisions determine destiny Essays Decisions determine destiny Paper Decisions determine destiny Paper When this happened to him it really hit home of how true this quote truly is. He began in high school experimenting and doing things that were against his beliefs Just to have some so called fun. I tried helping him and explain to him that wickedness never was happiness but It was hard for him to understand. While I was serving my OLDS Mission this accident took place. He went on vacation with 3 buddies to a friends birthday party. That night he himself was not intoxicated but he put himself in a situation in which those around IM were drinking. He decided not to participate and went out to the car to sleep. While sleeping, his buddies came back, Intoxicated, and decided they would go home that night instead of waiting until the next day to head back home. They didnt put their stables on nor on my friend who was still asleep as they drove home. Now, the kid who was driving drunk, fell asleep at the wheel, and the car rolled and my best friend flew out the windshield, landed on his head and was pronounced dead on the scene when the cops finally arrived. My friend had a dream of being a successful assessing, a wonderful husband, father, brother and uncle. Therefore, he let his passions or what he wanted at the moment get In the way to have so called fun, his dreams were destroyed. I didnt get to say goodbye or even attend the funeral, but I ended up learning how life can be gone in the blink of an eye and how truly precious life is to you and l. Life is not a race, It is a Journey and it is meant to be enjoyed. Never letting my passions destroy my dreams has helped me very much in my life today. I also see this as never letting what I want at the moment affect what I want In he long run. This is very important to me because I look at things with an eternal perspective. I think of what will happen today, tomorrow, or even in a week after every choice I make. I believe every person should think like this and make decisions based off of this knowledge as well. My family Is the most Important thing to me In the inure world. When I talk about family I dont just refer to the one I have now with 1 OFF my parents, out ten Tamely I will nave one cay. I am a very religious man Ana I pray for my wife and kids every day. I pray that I can continue to make good choices and e blessed to be a great husband and father someday. That being said, every decision I make, I think of how it will affect my future family. Here is when decisions determine destiny comes into play. I want to become a great father, husband, brother and son, and set an example to all of those around me. I envision myself becoming very successful as I continue to put God first and my family second. As I do that and as I remember who I am fighting and working for, I will have what I am longing for. Humility, patience, and service are the keys to success. Charity as well is an attribute I am working on developing. I know and believe that the decisions and choices we make now will affect our future generations and are the hinges of our destiny. One bad choice can change what happens years from now. I believe that as we control our passions, or what we want at the moment, our dreams truly can become a reality and we can experience a never ending happiness. I believe in eternal happiness and that comes from being obedient and being a good person. True happiness comes from within a family. That I am most sure of, and that is my destiny.

Country analysis project - Research Paper Example This report makes a thorough analysis of the various aspects of Japan including the social, demographic, political as well as economic aspects in order to determine whether it is the right investment destinations of the foreign investors. Since the country has already passed through the different stages of development the agricultural sector is declining and the manufacturing sector has matured. The financial markets in the country are also quite stable. A foreign investor has to operate in the specific business model that Japan already has in order to survive in the big picture. Necessary graphs and charts have been provided to elucidate the position in this essay. Population, Population growth and Density Japan is the eleventh largest country in the world in terms of population. At present the population of the country is more than 127,253,075. Japanââ¬â¢s population growth rate is declining by 0.1% because the country has taken appropriate measures to control the burgeoning pop ulation of the country. While the birth rate of the country is 8.23 per 100o people of the nation the rate of death is 9.27 as in 2013 (CIA 1). Thus in future the population of the country would decline. Age distribution and Gender The population pyramid as shown in the chart below. It provides an analysis of the age group distribution in the country and helps a business to understand that who would be the target market for the company and how the market segmentation can be done based on age and gender. Thus the social and political stability of the country is reflected through the pyramid. The median population of the country is 45.8 for the population in general. While the median population of males is 44.4 years, the median population of females is 47.2 years. 38.3 of the population are in the age group of 25-54 years which means that there is a huge number of working age group population in the country (Johnstone, Serret-Itsicsohn and Brown 354). The percentage of the 0-14 yearà ¢â¬â¢s age group is 13.4% while that of the 15-24 years age group is 9.7 % (CIA 1). These data show that any business that has the intension in opening their operations in Japan would not have much manpower problems in the short run as well as the long run. Figure 1: Population Pyramid of Japan (CIA 1) The sex ratio of the country is 0.95 per female in the country which means that the country has a huge number of female populations. Urbanization 91.3% of the total population of Japan live in the urban areas while the rate of urbanisation as computed by the 2010-15 census is 0.57%. This rate is low because most of the people live in the urban areas. The most important towns and cities of Japan are Tokyo with a population of 36.5 million, Osaka-Kobe with a population of 11.35 million, Nagoya and Fukuoka-Kitakyushu with populations of 3.2 and 2.8 million respectively. This means that most of these people are adding to the production of the country, which has kept the unemployment rat e in the economy low to 8%. The female unemployment is lower in the country compared to the male unemployment rate (CIA 1). Ethnic groups People of different ethnicities comprise the population of Japan. About 98% of the people of the country are of Japanese origin, on the other hand the Koreans and Chinese make up for 0.5% and 0.4% of the population. Only 0.6% of the population
